The BlocBuilder® revolution, an Arkema exclusive

BlocBuilder® technology, designed by Arkema, allows for the easy production of copolymers with enhanced properties, which no other industrial company has yet been able to produce… A polymer is a macromolecule that forms a chain whose “links” are composed of the same repeated “pattern”: the monomer. Polymers can be formed from either a single monomer (called a homopolymer) or from two or more monomers (called copolymers). In a copolymer, monomers string themselves together like pearls on a necklace. If several different types of monomers are strung alternately, we call this a “block copolymer” or a sequenced copolymer. To produce a polymer, a reaction must be “initiated” with a special molecule. Another molecule will then help “control” the stringing of monomers throughout the reaction. The goal is always to obtain a polymer with very specific characteristics. Herein lies the function of BlocBuilder® radical polymerization technology. A single molecule initializing and controlling polymerization, BlocBuilder® allows for the simple and effective production of copolymers with a closely controlled architecture. The result: sequenced copolymers with innovative structures, consisting of perfectly controlled molecule arrangements. |
